Palm Beach County · Delray Beach
On the canal and beach lots around Lake Ida, salt and shifting grade both work on a wall — a sealed face with drainage behind it takes both.
Delray's strength is the east side — Lake Ida, the beach district, Del-Ida Park, Tropic Isle — where established homes sit close to the water on canal and coastal lots. On the canal streets of Tropic Isle especially, the grade drops toward the water and the ground stays damp, so a retaining wall has to hold that grade and shed water rather than trap it behind the face.
This close to the ocean, salt and heavy summer rain wear a wall down fast. We build a segmental block or stone-veneer face, seal it against the salt, and put a full weep-and-drainage system behind any wall holding grade so the soil load and the rain both find a way out instead of pushing on the wall.
Above the retaining work, a seat wall around a patio or fire pit is a favorite on these coastal lots, and we cap it to match your pavers. The good news on the east side is simplicity — most streets are non-HOA, so approval is usually just the City of Delray Beach permit, which we pull.
Canal lots in Tropic Isle and the beach district deal with salt, damp ground and shifting grade — we seal the face against salt and build weep drainage behind any wall holding back the soil.
Yes, when it is built for the water. On these canal lots the pressure behind the wall is the real load, so we build a compacted base and a weep-and-drainage system behind the face so damp ground and rain escape instead of pushing the wall out.
Far less once it is sealed. We seal the wall face so salt and storm spray bead off, and because the wall is built in units over a proper base, any spot that ever weathers near the water can be addressed without tearing out the whole run.
Usually just the city permit. Most Lake Ida and beach-district streets have no HOA, so we simply pull the City of Delray Beach permit, handle any drainage requirement, and get to work on the wall.
It depends on the length, height, material and site prep, which is why the on-site visit and written estimate are free and itemized. Financing through Wisetack is available so the budget does not decide the timeline.
